Communication skills are so import...Oh great topic! Communication skills are so important, regardless of the medium. My college believed that enough that they made Oral Communication a gen ed class.

I'd add that in addition to practice, confidence plays a huge role in improving the ability to communicate in any form, but especially face-to-face and over the phone. Being shut out and teased by my peers after changing elementary schools once too often hindered my verbal and social skills at a critical age. (I don't recommend moving when someone in the family is a tween. Unless they are a social butterfly and make friends easily. Which I was not and didn't. I became best friends with books instead. My teachers introduced me to several great ones.)

Even now that I've mostly rebuilt my confidence and improved my oral communication skills, I feel safer with the written word, where I can edit my thoughts for clarity and wisdom. I still misstep at times, but I have a better chance at being heard for what I meant.

Being a slower thinker than most of the people around me hasn't helped either, but the only way I, or anyone else, will improve is to keep trying.

At least I'll have had plenty of practice with handling rejection once I start submitting my stories. ;)Jaleh Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04942272578488986874noreply@blogger.com
