A link about how baths can help you feel less lonely
Here's an interesting little article suggesting that physical warmth may actually help to ease feelings of emotional loneliness. Who knows where those two got tangled up, but they're certainly equated in language much of the time!
That makes sense. In my WIP my protagonist is taking a bath at the beginning of the story. She has a rare condition which makes her feel isolated in the world, and she uses this morning ritualistic "bath time" to console herself before going back out into the world.
There's definitely something to be said about the link between being warm and being happy. I take a bubble bath at least once a month to de-stress and indulge myself.
Back in Roman times, bathing together was a common way to do business because the intimacy allowed different parties to open up and negotiate. Kind of like how politicians and executives golf together now, although golf is totally crap when compared to bathing.
